The business of hogs

Our day started at 5am, the day to move hogs is never an easy day, today was no different. Buying new panels, clearing away mud, especially after 5 days of nothing but heavy showers (not complaining one bit, we need the rain). We began by connecting the panels, then driving posts, then moving the pigs, which is actually the easy part, because when they see new grass, they run for it.

Then we had to run and get 2 new additions to the farm, when we went to leave the suburban didn't start, so we switched batteries, that didn't help, come to find out it was the neutral safety switch. Finally got it started and went to get two red waddle hogs, which will be the ones we breed for next year's hogs, as we will cross them with our Yorkshires.

The hogs are now digging, and eating the grass, each of them are grunting with joy.

We would also like to say thank you to Jennifer Milliron and Brian Coffey for their purchase of a hog, that we also get the privilege of smoking for their special day.

I also need to thank Heidi Peacock for her purchase of a roaster hog for her 33rd birthday party, which I've heard was a huge success.

Lastly, we would also like to thank newlyweds, Tim and Christina Dunn for their purchase of a half a hog.

We have now begun mixing our own feed, and we are gaining 2lbs for every 3 pounds fed, per hog, which is incredible.

October is quickly approaching for those of you who have purchased a hog, whole or half, they will be processed by weight maturity, within the first 3 weeks of October, if you haven't contacted the butcher, please contact me and I will give you his information.

Thank you to all of you who have purchased a hog, chickens or eggs from us, your support is greatly appreciated.

As always, thank you for reading, and supporting our family farm.

Oh, real quick, we are taking pre-orders for Cornish cross hens, the price gets better the more you buy, 1-4 is $3.88lb, 5-11 is $3.70lb and 12+ is 3.25lb, based on an average of 4.5lbs per chicken.
