We wanted to say a quick and Special thank you to the Caldwell family, for purchasing a half a hog, 2 chickens and 2 dozen eggs. We look forward to meeting you tomorrow morning.
Many years ago when I was just beginning to enter the world of business, and learning how things worked, a business owner sat me down, and told me four things, that I haven't forgot.
1. When doing business with a man and a woman, always make sure you listen to what the woman wants, because they often know better than the man. Practicality, goes out the window if a man sees something fun, verses something logical.
2. When doing business with a family, always pay attention to the children, they may not be paying for it, but they will make your day easier if you include them.
3. When doing business with anyone, always listen to thier wants, and needs, don't try to oversell, and don't undersell, just be yourself, present your product with as much information as requested, and always have passion in doing what it is you do.
These three things have stayed with me over the last 18-19 years, from when I was selling cars, to waiting tables, or a food truck manager, kitchen manager, or when I was managing a moving company, and even now as we turn over a new leaf as pork and poultry farmers. I've worked hard to be successful in each thing I've done, to the point now that we partially own a moving company, and we have the time to do this as well. I think it is because I listened to these four things and paid attention to how he did business. He started out as a janitor, then became a mechanic, then a driver, a supervisor, office manager, then general manager, then owner. He now has a network of buslines, coach and school, delaerships, sports teams, etc. But the most important thing he ever taught me was to always, and he said always, thank the customer, personally and publicly. For that is the one thing that everyone needs to hear, no matter how much or how little they spend, treat them like they bought the farm,(his words 18-20 years ago) because everyone needs to know how important they are to supporting your business.
As always, thank you for reading and supporting our family farm.
