Today was a busy day on the farm, as we tended to the garden and the chickens, then drove an hour to get our new hogs. 9 30lb large white hogs. Fiesty, and hard to catch, but we managed and brought them home. While at E & E Farms we met two large sows like 550lbs plus and a large duroc boar named Rico. Of we had the land, we would buy these 3 and then have babies. The size of these animals is truly incredible. Rico was upwards of 575lbs and as gentle as could be.
Once we arrived home and quarantined the babies, it was time to load Salami and take him to the butcher, as he will be delivered as a roaster for friends of ours next Tuesday. In 4 months we were able to raise him to 110lbs, and his brother Ham is now 152lbs. Again, amazing the size of these animals and the gentleness as well.
Now the fun begins, training nine babies, handling them, and getting them use to all of us and the senior and freshman hogs here on the farm.
We have 4 definitely sold and several pending, but until the money is in our bank they are still available.
These pigs are the best price of the year, and will sell. The amount again is as follows. $425 with standard processing, and an additional $75 for cured meats. Half of everything is due up front, plus a 3% transaction fee. The other half is due one week before they go to the butcher.
Please contact me immediately, via email, messenger, or phone call if you want to buy one. Average price per pound is $3.12 which is a bargain, for a farm fresh, hand fed hog. And a savings of $175-185 from our earlier hogs.
As always thank you for reading and supporting our family farm.
