We know any of you in the Kansas City area just had sprinkles last night, but, not to far south, the towns of Paola, Osawatomie, Beagle, Lane, Garnett, and Centerville were pounded. Large hail, high winds, lots of lightning, and of course heavy rain fall.
Now, the national weather service never issued these as severe storms, but rather significant weather events.
Here on the farm we received 4.82 inches of rain from 6pm through 12 am. Our power was knocked out from 7:30pm through 11:30pm. Several poles we're downed, and transformers blown.
Tonight is calling for the same, then tomorrow and Sunday the heat indecies will be upwards of 98-100 degrees. The much needed rain that fell last night will be quickly evaporated over the weekend.
Today we checked the plants, we now have 108 pumpkin plants growing, which relates to 400 of the $4.00 pumpkins, and maybe 6 of the 500+ lb pumpkins. We also have 6 pumpkin plants sprouting that will be blue in color.
The potatoes are growing vigouriusly, as are the tomatoes, lettuce, spinach, broccoli, califlower and corn. Plus multiple other things that Brandi has planted.
Although this is the first official holiday of summer, we will be doing a few deliveries tomorrow, and then back to the farm. No three day vacations when you're a farmer, or the children of a farmer. So, please be safe and enjoy your weekend.
As always, thanks for reading my blog, and supporting our family farm.
